Improvement in Wear Resistance of Grade 37 Titanium by Microwave Plasma Oxy-Carburizing

چکیده
Grade 37 titanium is widely used in racing applications thanks to its oxidation resistance up 650 °C, but it suffers from poor wear and fretting resistance, especially at high temperature. In this paper, different surface modification techniques, namely, carburizing, coating by PVD-ZrO2 a novel microwave plasma oxy-carburizing treatment, are investigated terms of hardness, scratch compared the untreated substrate. Numerical simulation allowed optimization design source, which operated 2.45 GHz atmospheric pressure. The proposed treatment localized can serve improve tribological properties selected regions sample; titanium, oxy-carburized layer presents decrease rate 450 °C against alumina 54% an increase hardness more than three times.

Effect of SiC nanoparticles addition on mechanical properties and wear resistance of cemented carbides fabricated by spark plasma sintering
WC-10Co cemented carbides containing 1 to 4 wt% SiC nanoparticles were prepared by spark plasma sintering. The effects of SiC content on microstructure, mechanical properties and wear resistance of the sintered materials were studied. Microstructural studies showed that SiC addition resulted in WC grain coarsening. In addition, the hardness decreased with increasing SiC content. However, the fr...

متن کاملAdhesion Behavior of Staphylococcus aureus on Medical Grade Titanium Alloys Treated by Water Plasma Surface Treatments
INTRODUCTION: Metallic biomaterials such as medical grade titanium alloys have been widely applied in orthopaedic procedures. Post-operative implantrelated bacterial infections are not uncommon in particular to trauma fixation at battlefield. The use of sterile surgical instruments, welldesigned operating theatres, and pre-operative prophylactic antibiotics can help reduce the risks. However, t...
متن کاملImprovement of Scratch and Wear Resistance of Polymers by Fillers Including Nanofillers
Polymers have lower resistance to scratching and wear than metals. Liquid lubricants work well for metals but not for polymers nor for polymer-based composites (PBCs). We review approaches for improvement of tribological properties of polymers based on inclusion of fillers. The fillers can be metallic or ceramic-with obvious consequences for electrical resistivity of the composites. Distinction...
متن کاملComparison of Carburizing and Boronizing Processes on Mechanical and Wear Properties of PM Parts
In this study carburizing and boronizing processes were applied to powder metallurgy steel specimens and the mechanical and tribological properties of the substrate and coatings were evaluated under various process conditions.
The specimens, made from industrial test pieces, were carburized in a powder pack for a duration of 2-5 hrs at 850-950 ˚C. Similar specimens were pack boronized for 4 ...
